
Historical Moment for Sapientis
On September 16, Sapientis mobilized the Coalition for Equity and Quality in Education (CECE by its Spanish acronym), which called on the government to establish a multi-sectorial work group that will focus on transforming the educational system. The CECE achieved immediate results:

| More than 100 volunteers and program participants met with Governor Luis Fortuño, Secretary of Education Carlos Chardón, and legislators from the Education Commissions in the Puerto Rico Senate and House of Representatives. |
The Governor supported CECE’s call to action and named his education advisor, María Jaunarena and businessman Edgardo Fábregas as a members of the initial work group.
- The Secretary of Education promised his support of the process and named Dr. Juan Rodríguez, Under-Secretary for academic affairs and Dr. María Sevilla, Under-Secretary of Administration, as members of the initial work group.
- The group visited the Legislature and asked members of the Education Commission in the Senate and the House of Representatives to support the initiative.
- Representative Bernardo Márquez, President of the Education, Community Organizations and Cooperatives Commission reiterated the importance of establishing alliances and working together to improve the quality of public education and committed to be part of the initial work group.
Senator Kimmey Raschke, President of the Education and Family Affairs Commission accepted CECE’s proposal and pledged her support and participation in the initial work group.
Representative Brenda López de Arrarás, Minority Speaker on the Education Commission in the House of Representatives and Senator Sila Mari González, Minority Speaker on the Education Commission in the Senate, agreed to participate in the initial work group. They joined a diverse group from the private sector, non-profit organizations, the municipal government, academia and the public school community sectors.
